Why This Recipe Works
- It's easy to make! All you have to do is melt the ingredients together and top with mini marshmallows! Let it cool and enjoy!
- It can be made ahead of time. During the holidays, we are all short on time. This is a fantastic chocolate fudge recipe that can be made a few days ahead of time and enjoyed throughout the week.
- It's a delicious treat to enjoy! Everyone loves a cup of hot cocoa, why not take the flavors and make a fudge with it!
Ingredients to Gather
You only need a few simple ingredients that you can easily find in your local grocery store!
- Semisweet chocolate chips. Just one bag. There are lots of different brands of chocolate chips in the grocery store, you can use any of them, just make sure they are semisweet.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk. Not evaporated milk. Sweetened condensed milk adds sweetness and helps the fudge have a delicious, soft texture.
- Mini Marshmallow bits. I found mine on Amazon, but this time of year you can usually find them in the baking aisle. They taste like the marshmallows in Lucky Charms cereal. Seriously!

Substitutions and Variations
- Use different types of chocolate chips. You can use milk chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, or even white chocolate chips in this recipe.
- Mix in the marshmallows. Mix the mini marshmallows in the fudge right before you add it to the baking dish. This will allow the marshmallows to be in the fudge as well as on top of the fudge.
- Use regular marshmallows. If you prefer, you can use regular mini marshmallows, not the bits. Just keep in mind that the regular marshmallows tend to go stale quickly on top of the fudge.
- Add hot chocolate mix! To make this delicious fudge taste even more like hot cocoa, add 2 packages of hot cocoa mix to the fudge mixture as it is melted.
- Add some mix ins! Crush up some peppermint candy canes or add a dash of cayenne pepper for a Mexican hot cocoa fudge feel.
How To Make Hot Cocoa Fudge
When the fudge melts, carefully pour it into the prepared baking dish. Top it with the marshmallow bits. Press the bits into the fudge a little to make sure they stick. Place the fudge in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to harden the fudge. You can also leave it at room temperature for at least 4 hours until hardened.
Storage Instructions
Keep the hardened hot cocoa fudge in an airtight container on the counter. Try to eat it within 3 or 4 days so it does not go stale.
This hot cocoa fudge is also a great recipe to freeze! You can freeze it up to 3 months before you need it. When you want to defrost it, take it out of the freezer and keep it on the counter until it defrosts.
