Why You'll Love This Recipe!
- They only have a few simple ingredients. This eggnog waffle recipe is made with ingredients you probably already have in the house.
- They are easy to make! Unlike traditional Belgian waffles that need the separate the egg yolks from the egg whites, beat the egg whites until they are whipped perfectly and then carefully folded into the batter, these are mixed all in one bowl and made right in a waffle iron! You could call them more of a regular American waffle style.
- They are freezer friendly! This eggnog waffles recipe can be made in advance and frozen for a quick breakfast down the line.
- They have delicious holiday flavor! Is there anything that screams "holiday" more than eggnog? It's one of my favorite flavors of the season!
Ingredients in Eggnog Waffles
- Flour. We'll be using all purpose flour for this recipe, but you can definitely make waffles with self rising flour too!
- Baking powder. To make the waffles rise and get that crispy waffle texture.
- Melted butter. A neutral oil can be used instead of melted butter if you would prefer.
- Eggnog. Use your favorite brand of creamy eggnog or you can also make your own! This time of year you can find lots of different brands of eggnog in your local grocery store.
- Sugar. We are using white sugar, but you can use brown sugar if that is all you have on hand.
- Spices. Fresh nutmeg is best. Nutmeg tends to lose it's potency as it sits, so freshly ground is best.

What is Eggnog?
Eggnog is a classic holiday beverage that is made of milk or cream, spices, and egg. The mixture is cooked until the egg is pasteurized which is about 160 degrees Fahrenheit and then it is cooled.
Eggnog is usually served with some sort of alcohol, like rum or Kahlua. In this recipe we are not adding any type of alcohol, but to make it even more reminiscent of a glass of eggnog, feel free to add a little rum extract!

Tips and Tricks
- Make sure your waffle maker is preheated fully before adding the waffle batter. This will make sure your waffles are nice and crisp.
- If your waffle maker does not have a light that lets your know when the waffles are done, it's time to take your waffles out of the waffle iron when steam starts coming out of the iron.
- Do not open the waffle maker once you close it. To get the crispiest waffles, it's important that the waffles remain untouched until fully cooked.
- Do not overmix the waffles. It's ok if there are a few lumps left in the batter. If you overmix the batter, the waffles will be tough and not light and crisp.

I never thought of using Eggnog for waffles. When I went to gather ingredients, I found our milk had soured but we had Eggnog. These are delicious. I used self-rising flour and ground nutmeg. I will definitely make these again.
