Creamy Dill Pickle Pasta Salad Ingredients
This is where we pack in all theย creamy dressingย tastiness and the bold dill pickleย flavorย that makes this recipe so good. The best part is you only need a few simple ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen! Hereโs what youโll need:
- Cooked pasta. Followย package directionsย and rinse withย cold water. The cold water helps keep the pasta from overcooking and turning into mush.
- Mayonnaise. Use full fat mayonnaise here. Low fat or fat free tends to be a little more watery and won't give you that yummy, creamy dressing we are going for. You can also do halfย mayo, halfย Greek yogurtย orย sour creamย for a lighter version.
- Choppedย dill pickles. Use whatever type of pickles you like and whatever brand you would like. Use baby dills, sliced, or any shape you love.
- Fresh dillย for freshness and color
- Onionsย โย red onion,ย white onion, orย yellow onionย all work
- Colby jack cheeseย orย cheddar cheese, shredded. You can also cube them if you would like to get a little more cheese texture.
- Dill pickle juiceย for that extra punch.
- Black pepperย +ย salt. To season the pasta salad.

Easy Dill Pickle Pasta Salad Additions & Variations
You can customize thisย pasta saladย in so many fun ways. Here are some favorites:

- Mix in sliced greenย onions for some more green color.
- Useย Greek yogurtย instead of part of theย mayo.
- Add cooked chicken for a full meal. You can also add shrimp or top this with salmon. I like to serve it as a side to instant pot turkey tenderloin or instant pot turkey breast.
- Add a splash moreย dill pickle juiceย if you love boldย flavors
How to Make Dill Pickle Pasta Salad in 3 Simple Steps

Step 1
In aย large bowl, whisk togetherย cup mayonnaise,ย Greek yogurtย orย sour creamย (if using),ย dill pickle juice,ย fresh dill,ย garlic powder,ย black pepper, and a pinch ofย salt. This is the creamy dressing that will coat all of the pasta.

Step 2
Boil yourย shell pastaย according toย package directions. Once done,ย drainย and rinse underย cold waterย to stop the cooking process. This keeps yourย noodlesย from getting mushy and helps the dressing cling better.

Step 3
Pourย the dressing over theย cooked pasta. Add choppedย dill pickles,ย onionsย of your choice, andย cheddar cheeseย orย Colby jack cheese. Give everything aย good stir.

Step 4
You can serve it immediately or you can cover it and place it in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve it.
The Secret to Maximum Pickle Flavor
If youโre looking for some really bigย pickle flavor, Iโve learned a few tricks over the years. First, useย dill pickle juiceย in the dressing, not just a splash, but enough to really taste the pickles. It gives that tangyย flavorย without watering down theย dressing ingredients.
Second, chop theย dill picklesย into small pieces so theyโre in every bite.ย Baby dillsย work amazingly because theyโre extra crunchy. And third, addย fresh dill! Not dried dill, fresh dillย takes theย flavorย to the next level.
Finally, let theย pasta saladย chillย in theย fridgeย for at least an hour. This is when theย flavors meld together so it's even better the next day.
Storage
Store your dill pickleย pasta saladย in an airtight container in theย fridgeย for up to 3โ4 days. Theย flavorsย keep getting better, though you may want to give it aย good stirย before serving. If the dressing thickens overnight, add a splash of pickle juice orย mayoย to revive the creamy texture.ย Leftoversย make the perfectย next dayย lunch.

Dill Pickle Pasta Salad Recipe FAQs

Thisย pasta saladย is aย potluckย superstar, but it also works perfectly with grilled chicken, burgers, hot dogs,ย BBQย ribs, and even roasted veggies. Anything smoky or savory pairs really well with theย pickle flavor.
