Ingredients in 3-Ingredient Nutella Cookies
You only need a few simple ingredients to make this easy cookie recipe!
- All purpose flour. Flour gives the cookies a chewy texture and keeps it together. To make the cookies more cakey, use self-rising flour instead like in these self-rising flour chocolate chip cookies.
- Large Egg. The egg helps keep the cookie dough together and adds the necessary fat.
- Nutella. These are Nutella cookies after all! Make sure the Nutella is at room temperature so it will be easier to incorporate into the cookie dough. I always have a jar of Nutella in my pantry, but if you make homemade Nutella, use that! A store brand Nutella works too!

What is Nutella?
Nutella is my favorite chocolate spread. It originated in Italy and it is full of hazelnuts and rich chocolate. You can spread Nutella on toast or crackers, but you can also bake with it! I love making Nutella zucchini bread, Nutella waffles, Nutella thumbprint cookies, and Nutella cheesecake bars. You can't go wrong when you add Nutella!
How To Make 3-Ingredient Nutella Cookies
Tips and Tricks
- Make sure to use a parchment lined baking tray. The cookies will stick to the cookie sheet if you don't use a silicone baking sheet or parchment paper.
- If you do not have a stand mixer, use a large bowl with a hand mixer. This dough does get quite stiff, so it might be difficult to mix by hand, but it's not impossible.
- Add mix ins! Mix in a cup of chocolate chips or chocolate chunks, a pinch of salt or sea salt, chopped walnuts, or whatever your family loves in cookies.
- Drizzle more Nutella on top of the cookies for even more Nutella flavor!
- Make a double batch! Since there are so few ingredients in this chocolate cookie, you can easily double or triple this recipe. Make a lot for your holiday cookie trays this year!
- Make them Nutella thumbprint cookies! Instead of flattening the cookies completely before baking, make an indentation in the center of each cookie. Bake the cookies and when the cool, fill the center of each cookie with ½ cup of Nutella divided among all the cookies.
How To Store 3-Ingredient Nutella Cookies
This cookie batter is perfect to make ahead of time! Make the batter completely and then cover it with plastic wrap and place the large bowl in the refrigerator. When you are ready to bake them, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and bake for 8-10 minutes.
Keep baked cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
These cookies can also be frozen! You can freeze them in dough balls or you can freeze the baked cookies. Allow the baked cookies to defrost on the counter at room temperature until they are thawed completely.
FAQs
You don't need it! This is a chewy, crisp cookie instead of a cakey cookies. The eggs give the cookies that little bit of rise, but you don't need a leavening agent in these cookies.
For more cakey cookies, you can use self-rising flour. To make them gluten free, use a 1 to 1 substitute for white flour. You can also use a white whole wheat flour instead of all purpose flour for a little more fiber added to the cookies.
Sure! Use your favorite egg substitute in this recipe instead of one large egg.
