I love keeping kefir on hand at all times. It's so delicious in smoothies, like this mixed berry smoothie. I use kefir in my kid's smoothies for breakfast almost every morning, so it only makes sense to make a smoothie for the holidays!

Ingredients
- Vanilla Lifeway Kefir
- Banana. To add a little more nutrition and to make the smoothie creamy.
- Spices. Cinnamon and ground ginger.
- Maple Syrup. To sweeten the smoothie a little. You can use honey instead of maple syrup if you prefer or you can leave out the maple syrup all together.
- Ice. It's a smoothie after all!
What is Kefir?
Kefir is a tart and tangy cultured milk. It is full of good for you probiotics and is high in calcium and protein. In this recipe, we are using kefir where you would normally use buttermilk. The consistency is a little thicker than buttermilk and gives this smoothie a tang that you don't get from regular milk. It's similar to adding yogurt to your smoothie, which is so common these days!
How To Make A Gingerbread Kefir Smoothie
Peel the banana and add it to the blender.
Add the rest of the ingredients to the blender and add at least 1 cup of ice. If you prefer a thicker smoothie, add more ice.
Blend the smoothie until the consistency is pourable. Serve immediately.
Variations
- Make popsicles! Pour the blended smoothie into popsicle molds and freeze for a few hours. The kids will love these popsicles!
- Use a different flavor of kefir! Lifeway has so many different flavors! I like vanilla but you can use original or even holiday cookie!
- Make a big batch! You can make a big batch of these smoothies and separate them into cups. Enjoy them throughout the week for breakfast or a snack.
