Ingredients

- Vanilla Lifeway Kefir
- Banana. To add a little more nutrition and to make the smoothie creamy.
- Spices. Cinnamon and ground ginger.
- Maple Syrup. To sweeten the smoothie a little. You can use honey instead of maple syrup if you prefer or you can leave out the maple syrup all together.
- Ice. It's a smoothie after all!
What is Kefir?
Kefir is a tart and tangy cultured milk. In this recipe, we are using kefir where you would normally use buttermilk. The consistency is a little thicker than buttermilk and gives this smoothie a tang that you don't get from regular milk. It's similar to adding yogurt to your smoothie, which is so common these days!
How To Make A Gingerbread Kefir Smoothie
Peel the banana and add it to the blender.
Add the rest of the ingredients to the blender and add at least 1 cup of ice. If you prefer a thicker smoothie, add more ice.
Blend the smoothie until the consistency is pourable. Serve immediately.

Variations
- Make popsicles! Pour the blended smoothie into popsicle molds and freeze for a few hours. The kids will love these popsicles!
- Use a different flavor of kefir! Lifeway has so many different flavors! I like vanilla but you can use original or even holiday cookie!
- Make a big batch! You can make a big batch of these smoothies and separate them into cups. Enjoy them throughout the week for breakfast or a snack.
