This cake mix peach cobbler recipe is one of the easiest desserts you will find! Is it a traditional peach cobbler? No. BUT! It's easy, it's delicious, and it only uses 3 ingredients that you probably already have in your house! That's a win in my book!

This is technically a peach cobbler dump cake because we are dumping all the ingredients into a baking dish and baking it to perfection.

Cake mix is a great ingredient to keep on hand because it makes the easiest desserts in a pinch! You can make angel food cake mix cookies or peanut butter cookies with cake mix in no time and they are sure to impress your guests!

    Ingredients You'll Need

An overhead shot of the ingredients.
    • Yellow cake mix. One box of dry cake mix is all you need for this dessert.
    • Canned peaches. I used canned peaches in light syrup or their own juice. Avoid the heavy syrup as that will bake into a very sweet dessert that might overpower the rest of the ingredients.
    • Unsalted butter. One stick of cold butter. It's important that the butter is cold so you can slice the stick into small pieces.

What Type of Peaches To Use

For this recipe, we are using canned peaches in light syrup or in their own juice. Heavy syrup will be too heavy for this dessert.

If it is peach season and you have lots of juicy peaches on hand, feel free to use those! Peel the ripe peaches, slice them, and place them in a saucepan with 1 cup of water and ½ cup of sugar. Cook the fresh peaches down for 15 minutes until they soften and the water and sugar turn into a syrup. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before using in place of the cans of peaches.

A pan of the finished dessert has a spoon in the corner.

    Equipment to Gather

    • 9x13 inch casserole dish
    • Can opener
    • Knives
    • Cutting Board

Let's Make Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix!

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Spray a baking dish with cooking spray or spread melted butter on the bottom of the pan to make sure the peaches do not stick.

Open the cans of peaches and dump the peaches into the baking pan. Do not drain the peach juice. You want all the peaches and their juices in the pan.

Open the dry cake mix and sprinkle the whole bag over the top of the peaches.

Cut the stick of butter into 20 slices. Place the slices of butter evenly over the top of the cake mix. As the butter bakes, it creates the cobbler topping over the peaches. Do not stir!

Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 30-40 minutes or until all the cake mix is bubbly and golden brown. Allow the cobbler to cool slightly and serve.

The cake mix is poured over the peaches.
Top the peaches with the cake mix.
The butter is on top of the cake mix.
Top the cake mix with the butter.

    Tips and Tricks

    • The cobbler is done when the peach mixture and the cake mix have combined to create a bubbly, browned crust.
    • If you do not have a large enough baking dish, you can also make this easy dessert in a Dutch oven.
    • To add a crunch, add 1 cup of chopped walnuts or chopped pecans to the baking dish when you add the peaches.
    • Make mini cobblers! Use small crocks and separate the ingredients between 6 different crocks. Place the crocks on a baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes or until they are golden brown.

How To Serve This Peach Cobbler

    • This peach cobbler can be served bubbly hot or at room temperature.
    • Scoop the peach cobbler right out of the pan and onto a plate.
    • This is best served with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the cobbler.
    • A little whipped cream never hurt anyone either!

    Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do with leftover cobbler?

Place any leftover peach cobbler into an airtight container. Store leftovers in the refrigerator until you are ready to use them. Reheat the leftovers in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute and serve with a scoop of ice cream.

Can I use other types of fruit to make this dessert?

Yes! Depending on the time of year, you may not want to make peaches in this dessert recipe. No problem! Two cans of your favorite pie fillings will work. You can use cherry pie filling, blueberry pie filling, or apple pie filling instead of peaches.

Do I have to use yellow cake mix in this recipe?

No! You can use white cake mix, spice cake mix, and even chocolate cake mix to make this dessert!
