    Why This Recipe Is Great!

    • The Instant Pot makes cooking veggies quick! You can cook broccoli, sweet potatoes, and Brussel sprouts in the Instant Pot in just a couple of minutes.
    • They are full of flavor! Sautéed garlic and parmesan cheese add so much flavor to these little cabbages.
    • They are easy to make! The Instant Pot does the hard work for you. You don't have to do much chopping at all, and the Brussel sprouts can be cooked up whole!
    • There's no need to turn on the oven. When making a big meal, there is often no oven space. Utilize your Instant Pot during those times!

Ingredients For Instant Pot Brussel Sprouts

Ingredients for the Instant Pot Brussel Sprouts
    • Brussel Sprouts. Fresh or frozen sprouts work in this recipe.
    • Olive Oil. To quickly saute the sprouts.
    • Garlic. For added flavor, because garlic makes everything better!
    • Vegetable broth. Chicken broth or water can be used instead.
    • Parmesan cheese. To toss the sprouts in once they are cooked.

    Equipment

    • Instant Pot. I have a 6-quart Instant Pot that works perfectly for this recipe.
    • Cutting Board
    • Knives

How To Make Instant Pot Brussel Sprouts

Wash the Brussel sprouts and cut the stem off the Brussel sprouts, removing the outer leaves. If there are larger sprouts, cut them in half.

Press the Instant Pot saute function. Add the olive oil and minced garlic to the Instant Pot. Sauté for 1 minute.

Add the Brussel sprouts to the Instant Pot. Sauté for 3 minutes. Add the Brussel sprouts and the vegetable broth to the Instant Pot.

Cancel the saute function and close the Instant Pot lid. Make sure the knob on the lid is set to the sealing position. Set the Instant Pot cook time to 4 minutes on High pressure.

The garlic and oil are added to the Instant Pot.
Saute the garlic and olive oil.
The Brussels are added to the Instant Pot.
    Add the Brussel sprouts.
The vegetable broth is added to the Instant Pot.
Add the broth to the Instant Pot.

Once the cooking time is complete, quick release the pressure that is built up in the Instant Pot.

Remove the Brussel sprouts from the Instant Pot with a slotted spoon and place them in a serving bowl. Add the parmesan cheese and season with salt and black pepper. Toss to combine and serve immediately.

    Tips and Tricks

    • The Instant Pot will take 5-10 minutes to come up to pressure before it will begin cooking.
    • To clean the Brussel sprouts, cut the bottom stem portion off and place the Brussel sprouts in a large bowl. Fill the bowl with water. Any dirt that is in the sprouts will fall to the bottom. Remove the Brussel sprouts from the water and dry them off.
    • Be careful not to overcook the Brussel sprouts. They will easily get mushy and not be very palatable. As soon as the cooking process is over, quick release the pressure immediately.
    • Depending on your grocery store, you might find a bag of Brussel sprouts or loose Brussel sprouts. You'll want about 2 cups of whole Brussel sprouts.
    • Along with the Instant Pot, Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts are a fantastic way to enjoy these delicious veggies!

How To Serve Instant Pot Brussel Sprouts?

    • As a great side dish to Instant Pot Turkey Tenderloins.
    • Alongside a sweet potato casserole at a family dinner.
    • For dinner with chicken thighs or drumsticks.
    • Alongside rice dressing at your next holiday meal.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can you steam the Brussel sprouts without sautéing them first?

Yes! If you prefer to skip the sautéing portion of the recipe, simply place a steamer basket in the Instant Pot. Add the vegetable broth and place the Brussel sprouts in the steamer basket. Cook on high pressure for 5 minutes and then quick release the pressure that was built up.

    Are Brussel sprouts healthy?

Yes! They are just like mini cabbages. They are full of antioxidants, and tons of vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin K. Brussel sprouts are a green vegetable in the brassica family, which includes cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli.

What should I do with leftovers?

Leftovers should be placed in an airtight container and kept in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. To reheat, place the Brussel sprouts in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 1-2 minutes. You can also air fry them to crisp them up once they are cooked.

I love brussels, but I don't cook them very often. When I saw this recipe I couldn't wait to give it a go as I really need to use my instant pot more. They were so good. Enough crunch, but tender and no horrid smell in the kitchen.
      Love it
