When traveling isn't an option, we need to try to create those tastes of the tropics right in your own home. This Pina Colada smoothie is a great way to transport yourself to the tropics! Sit back and imagine yourself on a beach somewhere drinking this smoothie! Add a little extra brightness to your day!

Get transported to the tropics with this delicious drink!

What's in this smoothie?

First off, there's no rum. I know, I know, how could you?? When I'm writing this it's January, aka Dry January in my house. I wanted something that was delicious, nutritious, and a mocktail so I could at least pretend I was having a drink by the pool in some exotic location. Of course, feel free to add some rum at the end if you are really feeling crazy and what to go all out! Who am I to judge??

I added yogurt to this smoothie to up the protein level. Not all yogurts are created equal, so pick one that has more protein and less sugar. This is a great article about the different types of yogurts and what the difference between Greek and Icelandic yogurt is. When we buy yogurts in my house, we choose Icelandic. It's much thicker and more filling that the traditional yogurt you usually find in the grocery store.

If you wanted to make this vegan, feel free to use a non dairy yogurt. There are tons of different varieties out there! I prefer yogurt that uses coconut milk instead of almond milk, just because I feel it gives a better consistency, but you make the choice!

I used almond milk for this, but you could use oat milk if you prefer or a combination of coconut milk and almond milk. Any of those combinations would yield a delicious smoothie!

One last note, I used canned pineapple in this smoothie. That's because the pineapples in the grocery store aren't super sweet right now. You could definitely use a fresh one or frozen bits if you wanted. Once again, this is a super versatile smoothie that will yield delicious results no matter what the flavor combination!
