When the Spring rolls around and the grocery store is full of Spring veggies, fresh asparagus is always in my refrigerator! It's crisp, delicious, and really easy to make! When you don't want to turn on the stove, pressure cooker asparagus is the way to go!

The Instant Pot is a great way to steam veggies quickly! You can make Instant Pot steamed broccoli, Instant Pot steamed Brussel sprouts, Instant Pot carrots, Instant Pot corn on the cob, and even Instant Pot sweet potatoes!

How To Make Instant Pot Asparagus

All the ingredients are added to the Instant Pot.
Step 1: Cut the asparagus spears so they fit into the Instant Pot. Add the olive oil and garlic and mix well. Add ½ cup of cold water and close the Instant Pot making sure the lid is set to the sealing position (aka the venting position).
The asparagus is cooking in the Instant Pot.
Step 2: Set the cook time to 0 minutes for thin asparagus and 1 minutes for thicker asparagus on high pressure. After the cooking time is up, quick release the pressure and remove the asparagus. Mix with parmesan cheese and serve.

Tips and Tricks

  • The Instant Pot will take 5-8 minutes to come up to pressure.
  • Depending on the size of the asparagus, you may need to increase the cooking time from zero minutes. If you can only find thick asparagus, increase the cooking time to 1 minute.
  • Garnish this tender asparagus with fresh herbs, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and a sprinkle of extra parmesan cheese.

Recipe FAQs

What should I do with leftovers?

Once the asparagus has cooled to room temperature, place the leftover asparagus in an airtight container and refrigerate them for up to 4 days. To reheat, place the asparagus on a microwave safe plate and microwave for 2 minutes.

How do I keep the asparagus from getting soggy?

If you prefer, you can use a steamer basket, steamer rack, or a metal trivet for the asparagus to cook on. Place the asparagus on the top of the trivet and cook for 0 minutes or 1 minute depending on the asparagus size.

Can I double this recipe?

Yes! You can pile the uncooked asparagus into the electric pressure cooker and they will all cook evenly. That's the great thing about the Instant Pot, you can cook a lot at once!
