Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups Whole Wheat Flour or White Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 3 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 ½ cups Buttermilk
  • 5 tablespoon Melted Butter

Instructions

  • Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer's setting.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix together and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter, buttermilk, sugar, and egg. Mix until fully combined.
  • Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Mix until just combined, do not overmix.
  • Spray the waffle maker with nonstick cooking spray or spread on melted butter. Add the batter to the waffle maker. Cook based on your waffle maker instructions. Serve with maple syrup and butter.

Notes

  • You can easily find it in the grocery store, but you can also make it by mixing vinegar or lemon juice into whole milk.
  • Make sure add the waffle batter to a hot waffle iron, one that is fully preheated. This will make sure your waffles are nice and crisp.
  • Do not open the waffle maker once you close it. To get the crispy waffles, it's important that the waffles remain untouched until fully cooked.
