Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups All purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 ¾ cup Buttermilk
  • ½ cup Butter Melted

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450°F. Pour melted butter into an 8x8-inch or 9x9-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined. It’ll be a thick, sticky dough.
  • Pour the biscuit dough right into the buttered dish. Gently spread it out to the edges without mixing in the butter.
  • Use a knife to cut the dough into 9 squares before baking. This helps the biscuits bake evenly and makes them easier to separate later.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the butter is bubbling around the edges.

Notes

  • If you prefer to use self rising flour, simply leave out the baking powder and salt!
  • You can use salted or unsalted butter in this recipe.  If you are using salted butter, just leave out the extra salt in the recipe.
  • These biscuits are best served right away, but you can make the dough ahead of time and then pour the dough into the baking pan right before you are ready to bake them.
